The following interview is part of an exclusive interview series courtesy of CWN Contributor Steven O’Neil. Steven has been a fan of Pro-Wrestling for the past 30+ years and on top of his love for the business, he has also lent his voice to several podcasts over the past year.
What do you do in your spare time when you aren’t wrestling, or training?
Life is mostly work, because that is what life is supposed to be. You can either work or face misery. Sometimes you get both. I also enjoy buying and selling wrestling action figures.
What is your favourite wrestling themed podcast or YouTube channel?
It used to be The Store Horseman Podcast, but that ended due to the pandemic. Now I would say 83 Weeks has taken that mantle.
What was the moment that made you decide to pursue wrestling as a career?
In Grade 2 I realized how much tougher I was than all of my peers, and simultaneously how entertaining I was. The school board did not care for my behavior. It only made sense that my skills would only properly be applied in pro wrestling.
How do your friends/family feel about your wrestling?
No one thought it was a good idea until it worked out. Once I became ultra successful everyone got on board and is super supportive. That’s just the way life goes.
How do you balance family/relationships while pursuing your wrestling career?
Not well, the pandemic has been able to make up for some of that lost time. However chasing pro wrestling does not lend itself to being tremendously present within a home-life.
What does a typical training day look like for you?
Weight lifting and DDPYoga are my personal favourite training methods for my body. For wrestling practice; blow up drill into matches or Jiu Jitsu classes.
What does the diet of a pro-wrestler look like?
Black coffee and protein. Cut out the pizza and pop tarts; just haven’t figured out how to do that yet.
What do you think is a common misconception about wrestling that people have?
That it doesn’t hurt, I have traded many good years at the end of my life to get this far in pro wrestling.
If you had to wear a WARNING label, what would it say?
Be sure you are ready before consuming.
In an alternate universe where wrestling doesn’t exist – what are you doing instead?
Prophetic genius: leader.
