Zack Sabre Jr. wins G1 Climax, bucks tradition in Naito challenge

The main event in Ryogoku Sumo Hall on August 18 was of course the G1 grand final, pitting Zack Sabre Jr. against Yota Tsuji. A raucous Ryōgoku crowd firmly split down the middle cheered their favourite as Zack Sabre Jr. and Yota Tsuji started steadily, positioning on the mat being traded to the benefit of Sabre’s but on their feet Tsuji could overpower his opponent with shoulder barges. Tsuji’s fiery chops earned him the first advantage in the match but it was short lived, Sabre’s targeted onslaught beginning in earnest as he dissected Tsuji’s left arm…
